It helps to simply the act of starting a farm down into the idea of producing specific products for sale to specific customers.
We have taken it upon ourselves here at Small Farm Academy to identify and dissect every product being produced and sold by small scale farmers.
Our goal in doing this is to teach you exactly what it looks like to produce and sell each specific farm product.
We want you to analze each product you are thinking of producing using our framework before you ever plant a thing.
Below are the questions we answer for each product we analyze:
- How much can I earn?
- Who are my potential customers?
- How much will they buy per week?
- How much will it cost to be in business every month?
- How much will it cost to produce each unit of the product?
- What are the margins on the product?
- How much does it cost to acquire the necessary tools and materials?
- How much does it cost to build and develop the appropriate infrastructure?
- What are the specific liabilites with this product?
- What certifications do I need?
- What is the minimum I need to sell to break even?
- What is my monthly overhead?
